Sunset Strip Gibson GuitarTown Artist

Gibson GuitarTown

The Wake Up guitar is covered in a collage of news articles and headlines.
The words Wake Up have been emblazoned on the front of the guitar in red paint as a rallying cry
that we cannot remain uninformed, uninvolved, and unconcerned.
The back of the guitar features the Rage Against the Machine band name
and clinched fist graphic in red paint.

The newspaper clippings cover the massive GM recall, the BP Oil spill, the Defense of Marriage Act,
Stand Your Ground, and the conflict in the Ukraine, amongst many many more.
The majority of newspaper clippings are from the Los Angeles Times,
with some additional pieces from the New York Times and USA Today newspapers.

This Guitar can currently be seen at its placement on Sunset Blvd in front of Hart Park,
which is just to the east of the Sunset Tower Hotel.
{~8358 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069 and across the street from Saddle Ranch}
{The current plaque displays Livie's old name, which was legally changed in 2015.}

Previously on display as the sole GuitarTown representative in the Jack Daniel’s Legends Lounge at
the Andaz West Hollywood, an exclusive VIP lounge for the 2014 Sunset Strip Music Festival {SSMF}.

Artist Proposal

Since hitting the scene in the early nineties, Rage Against the Machine has been a resounding and rebellious voice telling us not to remain complacent and just stand by as history happens to us. There has never been a more poignant time for Rage Against the Machine's message, we need to wake up. It is more important than ever for voices to be heard and individuals to stand up for their rights. When we do stand up, we can right those wrongs, as evidenced in the overturning of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Prop 8, and the Defense of Marriage Act. This design, entitled "Wake Up", takes its inspiration from the song of the same title.
